I am more than this

Thought I explain a bit how Arnaud and I operate. He taught me basic photoshop so he can get an idea of what I want. I'm not an artist. I just toss ideas to him. I use different images to make a design. The idea for I am more than this came to me after reading an article online about how some cultures place so much emphasis on this part of the female body. If she has been defiled she is no longer worthy. How tragic that this organ determines the value of a woman. It triggered memories how I felt in my marriage. I felt like an object. I found it very therapeutic constructing images with visual messages to express what I can't say verbally.

These are 2 versions I made. As you can see they are very crude. The first one represents how some societies teach women that our purpose in life is to find a husband and have children. The second version represents that some men see us as a sexual/reproductive object and how much emphasis some societies put on purity signified by the doves.

When I first presented this idea to Arnaud he wasn't exactly a fan of it. He took the design and made one without the doves. I told him, "Why didn't you put the doves?" He says, "Because they look cheesy." I told him, "Arnaud, put the doves back they mean something." Some time later I got an email with a new version. I was amused to see a huge dove right smack in the middle. I pictured him with his sketch pad muttering to himself, "You want the doves, here's your fucking dove!" All kidding aside, Arnaud has done an amazing job bring some of my ideas to life. I don't tell him the meaning behind them in order to see what he comes up with.

Arnaud had organized a showroom in Paris on June 2, 2017. I arrived from Berlin and he told me that he already sold a framed poster. I asked him which one. He hesitated for a moment and if I recall correctly he pointed to the image. It was I am more than this. I looked at him and teasingly said, "Oohh, you mean the one you hated and said it was cheesy?" He smiled and said, "I know, I know." It's very encouraging to see I am more than this as the most viewed image on our website.

We started a clothing brand in hopes of empowering women. I am more than this is a design that women are more than a sexual/reproductive object. I hope that through art it encourages women to prevail.
